Jared Bowman 2014 AAU Jr. Olympics in IA

Hello my name is Jared Bowman and I am eleven years old. Family and friends, I need your help. I am currently raising money to fund my trip to compete at the 2014 AAU National Junior Olympics (JRO’S) in Des Moines, Iowa. This is my second year of Track and Field. I originally asked my parents to join our local track team to improve my speed on the football field. My coach asked me one day at practice if I would be interested in trying something other than running. I agreed and began to train to throw the shot put and discus. I really did not know if I could do it. I began throwing at practice and he eventually told me that he thought that I was ready to compete. In my first competition, I was so excited to receive 5th place. This motivated me to do better and as the season progressed I got better and better. By the end of the 2013 season I was ranked 1st place in shot put and 2nd place in discus which qualified me to advance to the national competition in Detroit, MI last year. I competed against the top 60 shot put athletes and was blessed to place 8th in the country. I also competed in discus and received 16th place out of 40 other competitors. It was at this point I knew that I had received another gift from God. I have worked even harder this year producing similar results as last year. This year at the Virginia State Championship, I received 1st place in the shot put and 2nd place in discus. This allowed me to advance to the National District Qualifier (VA, NC, & TN) that was held this past weekend (June 27-29) in Suffolk, VA. I received 1st place in the shot put and 3rd in discus. I’m so excited about going to the JRO’s in Iowa. I promise to work extremely hard to get a national title this year. Any amount donated would be greatly appreciated in helping me to achieve this goal.
