Helping Hands for Haiti

Donation protected

Dear Friends and Family,

My sister and I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve on a volunteer trip to Calebasse, Haiti over our spring breaks. We will be traveling with the organization "A Door to Hope", a  non-profit ministry based in Nashville, Tennessee. "A Door to Hope's" vision "is to be the living love of Jesus within Haiti and in the United States. We yearn to be the Gospel by sharing truth, building relationships and being the hands that assist in providing love, sustainability and hope to broken communities domestically and internationally." As Christians, my sister and I wish to bring hope to the Haitian community while being the hands and feet of God.

On past trips to this beautiful country, our groups have stocked with supplies and cleaned two orphanages (including a special needs orphanage), helped Haitian families with daily chores, assisted Haitian crews in building houses, renovated schools for better utilization, held community-wide rice feedings, and led prayer walks throughout the Calebasse village. The work was tedious, but the most rewarding ordeal one could ever experience.

This mission trip pushed my sister and me to be harder workers and giving citizens to our community as well. Since this experience, we have strived to be more active participants in our school and community through volunteering. Not only have we become more interested in being active members of our own community, but began fundraising for a returning trip to Haiti the moment we stepped foot back on American soil.

This mission was personally life changing toward our paradigm of religion and our sense of gratefulness. Visiting a third world country opened our eyes to the world's struggles and needs that can be attended to from the grace of others. We have become more thankful for the food, shelter, schooling, and love that has been unconditionally provided for us. In hopes of having a direct and positive effect on the lives of others, we commit ourselves to all roads that will take us there. From that visit, our goal has been to work toward a better future for the country and people we fell in love with.

To further the journey, my mother, sister, and I are returning to Haiti this year -- March of 2015. We would like to help the country with our full capacity; any donations would be greatly appreciated and will positively impact the community in ways one could only imagine. Your consideration means the world -- with much sincerity, thank you.
