Little Emerson's Medical Fund

Little Emerson Robert Ancona was born on October 16th, 2014 to Brooke and Devin Ancona.  After a normal pregnancy and routine ultrasounds that determined everything was going well, Emerson was unfortunately born with multiple birth defects in his groin and intestinal/abdominal area, which required immediate surgery and the use of a colostomy bag during the first year of life.  This came as a huge shock to Brooke and Devin who were expecting a healthy baby boy (as was told to them by their medical team).



The first year was difficult with all that was required for his care as well as a second surgery around Emerson’s first birthday.  The procedures for Emerson have been successful so far, but the medical bills continue to mount. In addition, Emerson has several critically important surgeries left to go.

These surgeries involve rare and complicated reconstruction of the pelvis, urethra, and penis, making the pool of surgeons with experience treating these abnormalities very small. These surgeries would include preoperative testosterone supplementation, reconstruction of the urethra/penis, and major orthopedic surgery to close his widely separated pelvis. As any parent would seek out, Brooke and Devin want the best surgeons possible to treat his condition.


Unfortunately, Emerson’s current doctors and surgeons have stated that they are not the most qualified or experienced team for the job. Even more devastating is that even with that information their current insurance will not cover them for any treatment outside of his current doctors.

The best and most qualified doctor for Emerson is located across the country in Baltimore, Maryland. The duration of Emerson’s hospital stay in Maryland may be up to 6 weeks. With Devin working hard at grad school and Brooke working on Emerson’s care full time, they are unable to afford the extensive costs that would give Emerson the best chance at a successful surgery, recovery, and normal life after.


As a last resort we are asking for your help. Any amount of money that can be raised will chip off even the tiniest bit of stress and worry from their already heavy shoulders.  All funds immediately go towards paying medical bills and expenses for Emerson’s surgeries, care & recovery, and the ability for Brooke to stay with him as they travel across the country for the treatment that is so desperately needed. Any additional money raised would allow Devin to visit and go towards all medical bills and services still needed in Emerson’s future so he can have a happy and well childhood.
