Diagnosing Anika

Life is a little upside down right now. Since June/July 2017 our blessed 7 year old child Anika has battled six fevers, pneumonia,  anemia, neutropenia and other complications without an explanation for what is going on or why. We live in one of the smallest countries on earth with limited diagnositic capacity so our doctor suggested it would be wise to seek treatment in a proper facility. Last week, Anika was accepted by Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto and we know we now just steps away from finding out what is wrong. Anika will be eligible for health care in Canada by mid February, but until then all of our living and medical expenses are being paid for out of our savings and a bank loan. We are very fortunate that the Doctor that has taken her case is a world renown pediatrican who knows all about kids, the immune system, blood and infectious disease. We are so fortunate to have been accepted to Sick Children's Hospital, since thousands of children apply to get help there and only a lucky few get in.

While this is a blessing, the letter we got from Sick Kids informing us that they have accepted her says the inital walk through the door (with a chest x-ray) is $1500 CAD and that's before we run tests and have follow up visits, and if she gets another infection like the last one she had critical care is $7000 a day! Suffice to say, what we have raised  isn't going to be enough and Anika needs your help.  We don't know for sure how much we need because we don't know what's wrong, but every little bit will help. 

By mid-February, she will be eligible for health coverage in Canada, but until then, it's up to us.
