In East Africa, menstruation is one of the biggest reasons why girls miss school, often dropping out altogether. No girl should have to feel as though she can’t attend school during her period.
Sanitary pads are too expensive or unavailable for many girls in Uganda. Menstruating girls will resort to using rags, leaves, newspaper, or even mud, to fashion some form of protection to use when they have their periods. This is uncomfortable and unsuccessful, and also raises health concerns.
To ensure girls get the protection they need and don’t have to miss school just because they have their periods, I plan on providing AFRIpad kits to girls in Engari.
AFRIpads Menstrual Kits are reusable sanitary pads designed to provide feminine hygiene protection and comfort. Women make the kits in Uganda. Each kit provides effective protection for 12+ months (menstrual cycles). They are cost effective and eco-friendly. The kits cost $6 (Canadian) each. https://www.afripads.com/our-products/
I hope to raise $2000.00 which is enough money to purchase a minimum of 100 kits and supply the Secondary School with team shirts and perhaps some much-needed sports equipment.
As always, 100% of the money you donate goes to the students in Engari, Uganda. No overhead and no administration fees. Please consider donating.
