Helping West Duluth American Legion Post 71

We all know that COVID-19 has hurt everyone in one way or another. We all pray for the day when we can say NORMAL again. Post 71 had a hard time during the first shut down but we were able to not take advantage of the grants/loans that were being given. At first, we thought it was a loan that had to be paid back. At the time of the first shut down we were doing pretty good so didn’t see a need to take advantage of the grants/loans. I heard some places were forgiven on their loans some not. The members of our Post know that the backbone of our Post is our Volunteers. If it wasn’t for them it would have been a lot harder to get thru this. Now we are in the second shut down and we will be applying for grants and hoping we get them and not have to pay anything back.

The West Duluth American Legion Post 71 is not only a place where Veterans can go and tell their stories and have a drink every now and then but it’s also a place where the community can go on certain days to enjoy a meal, dance, bingo and a drink.

Post 71 also gives thousands in donations every year (we had to make a hard decision to stop donations until the Post is back on their feet). We don’t just give to Veterans organizations we give to other things like food banks, law enforcement, other community groups, school programs, kid’s summer camps, youth baseball and other sports, senior class graduation parties and many other youth organizations. We also let certain Veterans/Military groups use our facilities to hold meetings and training programs for kids free of charge.

Post 71 is now asking our community to step up and help the West Duluth American Legion get back on their feet so we can start giving back to the community again. Once this is over and were back to NORMAL, we will start up doing things like we used to and work on getting some new things going. We would like to thank all our members and our regular costumers who been supporting us over these hard times and wish everyone a Happy New Year.
