Help Tom Lane with Cancer Recovery

Donation protected
This past June my Brother Thomas was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma.  The long and short of it is Cancer of the lip. (Huge smokeless tobacco user) The plan of action  was to under go surgery (Aug 2nd), followed by some time to heal, 6 weeks of Radiation and then the long recovery.
The Cancer was present in a large percentage of his bottom lip and therefore the process of removing  the actual tumor required an extensive surgery. (2 surgical teams and over 11 hours).  The doctors had to  remove all the Cancerous tissue plus an additional 2 CM, which ultimately included his entire bottom lip and a significant portion of his chin.  They replaced the area using the skin and the artery (for blood supply), from his left forearm. He was given a few short weeks to recover from the surgery and then the radiation treatments (30 total) were the next phase to conquer.  The treatments actually beat him up pretty bad.  He compared the feeling  to burning your mouth with extremely hot soup then multiply that by 10!  Painful.

So, the surgery went well and the radiation treatments have been completed. Now it’s time to concentrate on  making a full recovery.

Well, Tom has been making some progress.  Very slowly but in a positive direction. After losing 40 lbs., the doctors threatened him with the possibility of a feeding tube. I’m sure those who know him can imagine his reaction. Well he’s managed to gain a few pounds.  Which in itself is pretty remarkable considering the fact he can’t chew anything and has consumed primarily soups and other liquid based foods.

His speech has also been improving .  Although, he thinks he sounds like Elmer Fudd.  Which when he said it did make me laugh and is truly a step in a positive direction.  The fact he can find humor in the way he sounds and can get a little chuckle from it definitely shows signs of the old Tom.

Throughout the past 6 months Thomas has been unable to work due to the initial surgery, the treatments,  the amount of pain and many other issues associated with the Cancer diagnosis.

With that that being said,  this account has been set up to help relieve the worries/stress of having to figure out how to provide for his Family and Just focus on his personal health and recovery.

Therefore I ask you to Please consider making a small contribution toward helping Thomas on his road to recovery.  $1, $5 or whatever you feel comfortable with giving.  Every $1  can help  make a huge difference with such a difficult situation.  I know that things are tight for most everyone and it may be difficult financially to make a monetary contribution,  in that case I’d ask you to please take the time to leave a message of encouragement.
Support in any form will be more than appreciated.

I’m looking forward to giving Him this gift and letting him know how much His Family, Friends, the Baseball Community and a brotherhood of his peers Love Him and are pulling for him. It will be an incredibly uplifting  and a more than fantastic way to  start 2018.

Thank you in advance for your contribution.

Sincerely,

Kevin Lane
