Helping the railway family be mentally well

Staying mentally well is crucial. People working in the railway family have no dedicated charitable body to support them mentally. Therefore we are fundraising to get our railway mental health charity called Head-shunt off the ground, to support people in the railway family. 

 

Why start a charity now?

The past two years through the COVID crisis put immense pressure on people and the railway family is no exception. People in the railways are deemed 'key workers' as the railway is key to move people and freight to keep Britain moving; so great mental health is essential. 

 

People in the railway industry have to undertake a broad range of tasks as the railway is a 24/7 operation in the UK. Aside from office tasks, a lot of people work on their own, work at night and day; unsocial times of the year including Christmas Day and have to contend with attending rail suicides; dealing with irate passengers, plus time-bound pressures in running the railway including maintenance and renewal.

So it's vital they are supported, and support in this key area is appreciated by people donating to this gofundme initiative . The charity is envisaged to support and educate people; sign-post people to help; whilst working with employees and employers to break the stigma which remains around mental health and support rail companies through work we can do to support them. and their teams
