Helping The Handy Man

Hello everyone,

I’ve struggled for quite some time to write all of this out. However, in an effort to keep from breaking any further, I hope that by attempting to articulate the litany of extremely unfortunate events that have overtaken our family in recent weeks will help to ease the pain, even if only for a moment. My name is Brian and the story below, details how our dad, needs your help now, more than ever before in his life.

First, a bit of a backstory. Our dad, pictured above with just one of his many grandchildren, is undoubtedly one of the hardest working men that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I don’t say that lightly. From remodeling entire homes and working as a pipe fitter for most of his life, Wayne Brown, more commonly known by his nickname of Charlie Brown derived both from his love of the cartoon and his first name, is a well known name in any community that he finds himself a part of, for all of the right reasons. Whether it’s fixing a sink, laying tile, hanging doors, painting walls, installing electric, or whatever you may need at the time, Charlie Brown was and largely still is your go to man. He’s just what the title describes. A handy man. More importantly though, he’s so much more…

See Charlie Brown isn’t just a man who could solve almost any problem that you threw at him, and if he couldn’t, he sure knew a person who could. No, Charlie Brown is everything, and then some. A Husband, A Father, A Grand Father, A Great Grandfather, A Surviving Transplant Patient, A Father in Law, A Fisherman, and often your best friend in every sense of the word.

On August 10th, Charlie Brown was admitted to the hospital after becoming ill with COVID and Pneumonia, stacked, which isn’t all that good for a perfectly normal and healthy individual to contract together, much less an immunocompromised patient. However, our entire family, knowing and understanding good and well just how strong Charlie Brown is, we hoped for the best. That his body and the doctors would be able to have him out, just as quickly as he went in. We were all hopeful, just as any family would be.

Unfortunately, five short days later, Charlie Brown was placed on a ventilator and has simply been in a holding pattern in the days since. For each good day that we have, a not so good day follows and so on and so forth. If any of you reading have made it this far along, and either have a history or background in the medical field or have had a family member placed on a ventilator throughout this pandemic, then I’m quite positive that you understand just how difficult this period can be.

Through it all though, we remain hopeful, optimistic and patient. Moreover, when Charlie Brown progresses well enough to begin his journey back to normalcy, whatever that may look like, there will be an abundance of associated costs with everything from everyday bills and medical equipment required to legal fees and other items that I’m sure that I’ve missed. The donations received throughout this campaign will go directly to my mother, Julie, who is the Wife of Charlie Brown, and who through every moment of this trying time has stood by Dad’s side, waiting to see his smile once more.
