Helping Rebuild The Conner's Home

What do you do when tragedy hits people you love? How do you support them in the hopes of easing their suffering! Tragedy is when bad things happen to good people and there’s too much of that these days. This is when we close rank around our dear friends to bolster their faith in humanity as well as our own. Mike and Chris Conner are the people that willingly show up for their community and always have. Now it’s time for us as their community of friends to show up for them! They’re strong and adaptable but this kind of loss represents a lifetime of achievement as well as memories! It’s ‘just stuff’ they say as they struggle to process what has happened. One minute living in a beautiful home filled with joy and love embracing the next generation at the Holidays and in an instant nothing! Yes it’s just stuff until you reach for a symbol of a cherished memory...a photo, a family recipe, a comfy sweater or pair of slippers, a holiday ornament from past generations or a document necessary to rebuild a future on the charred foundation of a past worth saving. True a Home is just stuff but some stuff symbolizes the love enveloped by that Home. The Conner Home was a work in progress and a genuine labor of love and the symbol of a lifetime of kindness. I’m certain the Love will prevail but the loss will ripple for years to come as memories have lost their precious symbols. Those little triggers of cherished occasions sometimes lost in the rudimentary tasks of day to day minutia. Emotion is going to run it’s full range in the months to come as our good friends reassemble their memories and rebuild their home! That fortress of security and comfort we count on and rightfully take for granted as we raise our families. So as you read this fellow friends take note as you reach for your grandmother’s earrings or your father’s coin collection or that beautiful pen and ink drawing of a lion’s head sketched by your late mother there’s love and history in these things! Imagine the heartache in losing them as you glance at you child’s photo. Compassion is in order now.
