Helping Out a GPA Global Citizen

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Stephanie Campos Johnson, a 5th and 6th grade teacher at Global Preparatory Academy.

Global Preparatory Academy at Riverside 44, a free K-8 public school is committed to providing high quality dual language instruction. At Global Preparatory Academy, our students learn through Spanish and English in a highly engaging and nurturing environment. We pride ourselves on making meaningful instructional connections igniting a lifelong passion for learning.

With that being said, one of our loving, admirable, and humble Spanish teachers is in need of our help. She didn't share any of this information willingly; I had stopped her in the hallway because you can tell that she was upset. It took a while for her to disclose that she had just received news that her husband and her daughter (a 6th grader at CFI 70 in IPS) are having to return back to Mexico while their new application is under review. They have spoken to attorneys about their situation and actions have to be taken immediately.

They have  tried taking care of everything locally, but it is a must for my family to leave the country to renew the permit. They are in need of at least $2,000 to cover attorney costs, application fees, and travel expenses. Their integrity is what they hold dear to their hearts, and want to do everything legally in such a short notice is impossible without our help!

This teacher is beyond deserving of any contribution you can make. She joined our GPA family last spring. She is a phenomenal teacher, colleague, and friend. She is adored, respected and admired among our Global Prep family. Family is the most important thing to her, and she treats every single one of her students and colleagues as if they are her own family. She recently received the GPA Global Citizen Leadership Award where she was nominated by all faculty and staff.

The most humbling thing about her while she her and her family are trying to stay strong in their own struggle, she is currently organizing a collection of items for one of her students’ family who has lost everything in a fire over the Fall Break. Her selflessness is one of the most admirable traits she has.

Again, any contribution or donation will appreciated. From our family at GPA to yours, please consider helping out one of our very own. At the very least, please share this page so that others who have stories like hers can connect, empathize, and support her and her family.
