Helping our friend Oveta Pledger

Donation protected
Please read below and heartfelt message from Oveta about her current situation.  I have had the honor to know and work with her for many years when she returned to Benton.  She started the Ralph Bunche Back to School Picnic many years ago with many of you becoming involved in many ways to give back to the kids in our community.  Now Oveta needs our help to get her through a tough time in her life.  We decided this could be one way to help her out.  Thank you for your time in reading her story.

Shane

Everybody who knows me would describe me as a kindhearted, positive, strong willed lady that will not take no for an answer when helping others.

My journey back to Benton began after the death of my father in 2002 when grabbed the baton to carry on the Pledger's Legacy. My son and I vowed to be upstanding citizens in the Benton community in which we both received awards. While a grief stricken individual I prayed and God granted me my purpose of founding the Ralph Bunche Back To School Picnic in which has a 15 yrs. tenure of dedication.

We all have heard the saying "Bad Things Happen To Good People" As of December 12th 2016 the bottom fell out of my life and left me helpless, broken and overwhelmed with no income available and my son in college trying to better his life. I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia which had progressed and led to loosing my job and being told that "We don't trust your judgement with the clients any more." My Love for caregiving ended with a gut wrenching, eye opening experience.

During the 4 1/2 mths that I've been unemployed and not qualified to get unemployment, I have been dealing with my symptoms and the side effects that my medicine does to my judgement. I cannot deal with stress or being overactive or it will cancel all my meds. In addition to this my doctor also found I had a bacterial infection in the lining of my stomach which could've turned cancerous and we will have to keep checked. After slipping into a state of depression it was determined at my physical that my vitamin D was 7 which is supposed to register between 30-70. I also experience numbness and heaviness in my left arm which landed me in the cardiologist office and everything checked out normal but led me to being scheduled for a breast reduction. Before I could have the surgery, I had to pass my mammogram and low and behold, I received a call from SMH saying they seen a mass on my left side. Upon returning for an ultra sound it was determined by the radiologist that I had two small cyst and I need to return in 6mths instead of a year. I was cleared for the breast reduction which I had March 27th which I am still mending from now. My next step is to see a psychiatrist or psychologist and then a rheumatologist before filing for disability.

These 4 1/2 mths of being unemployed with no income coming in has really took its toll. It has really been an humbling experience for my son and I. If it wasn't for the grace and mercy of the Lord and a few close friends I don't know where we would be. This really gives me new light of helping others when you land on the other side of the stick.  I walk by faith and not by sight trusting and believing that too shall pass. ~Signed A Humbled Child Of The King~
