Helping Mike Powers Kick Cancer’ Ass
My name is Heidi Youseph, and many of you know me as Mike’s sister. If you've spent any time with Mike Powers, you know his sense of humor is second to none. Whether you've snowmachined, fished, painted cars, spun brodies in a parking lot (in high school or maybe as an adult lol), drove on the ice in Alaska, or just shared a laugh over a beer, you’ve experienced his ability to make anyone laugh hard! He’s the kind of guy who has a special, and often hilarious, nickname for everyone he loves. Mike is more than just a friend; he’s a dad, a boyfriend, a son, an uncle, a cousin, a nephew, and such a vital part of our lives.
But life threw us a curveball: at 58, Mike was diagnosed with esophageal cancer last week. We all were rocked, but now we are ready to stand up and fight. If cancer thinks it picked the wrong guy, well… it did. Because Mike is gearing up to fight this battle with the same stubbornness, humor, and grit that’s carried him through life. He’s got an incredible medical team, a whole lot of loved ones, and his own determination. Cancer doesn’t stand a chance.
While Mike is prepared for the emotional and physical battle ahead, the financial burden is a challenge we can help him with. Cancer treatments are incredibly expensive, and the related costs can quickly add up. Mike will be facing frequent trips to and from appointments—a 45-minute drive each way from his home outside of Spokane. There will also be a need for overnight stays for treatments, and significant gaps in his work schedule as he undergoes treatment and recovery.
The goal of this GoFundMe is to help ease that financial stress so Mike can focus all his energy on healing. Your donations will help with travel expenses, medical bills, and daily living costs during his time away from work. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and show Mike he has an army of support behind him. Please consider donating and sharing this page with others who know and love Mike. Let’s help him through this journey and get him back to making us laugh.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
