Mike Phillips was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. It is a very aggressive and fast moving cancer of the mouth.
He is currently in surgery at Emory to remove a portion of his tongue and his lower jaw. He is also having a portion of his shoulder removed to form a new jaw bone. This surgery will take 10-12 hours to complete.
After surgery is complete he will be in ICU for a few days, and then moved to a regular room. Six weeks after surgery he will begin to undergo radiation for four weeks. We will then see how the cancer is reacting to the radiation, and see where to go from there.
He has two daughters, Hannah and Haley, who are nervous wrecks waiting for news. They will be giving updates on their father’s condition as soon as he is out of surgery. They have been by his side as much as possible since he’s gotten this diagnosis.
This will be a long and painful journey for Mike. He will be unable to work, and needs any help that can be given during this trying time. Hannah and Haley are taking time from work to be with their father, and will have to travel back and forth from middle Georgia to Atlanta to be with Mike while he’s recovering from surgery. This GoFundMe will be used to pay bills and transportation costs while Mike recovers.
