HELP MARCIA WALKER LIVE STRONG AGAIN

Four knee surgeries and eight months later, our friend, Marcia Walker is unable to walk without aid of a walker and still doesn’t have a working knee.  Her first knee replacement surgery was in November 2017, and she looked forward to being recovered and home by Christmas.  However, due to many complications, she still is not able to bend her leg which keeps her wheelchair bound and limits what she can do and her transportation options.

Marcia Walker has always been an active person and a giver to her community.  She was a VISTA volunteer helping low-income home owners, a director of the Eastside Community Center in Columbus, Indiana and a writer/photographer for news publications. She has also worked with Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.  An  avid outdoor enthusiast, she loves tromping the southern Indiana wilds, and has become an expert birder who lends her talents to judging 4H photography at county fairs.

Which brings us to this GO FUND ME PAGE:

For 9 months Marcia has endured knee surgery followed by infection, 2 dislocations, more surgery,  flu, and  a startling discovery of a pulmonary embolism that sent her to ICU for several weeks of recovery.

Insurance and Medicare are covering some of her cost, but not all.  Medicare covers only the first 20 days in rehab/nursing home expenses.  That ran out in May for Marcia leaving her a $300/day bill ever since. Another cost is transportation;  since she can’t bend her leg  she needs a wheelchair transport for all her doctor visits to the tune of $500 round trip to Indianapolis.  And then the issue of co-payments on her medications elbows its way into the front of the budget at $1000/month.  Meanwhile, her beloved dog Pogo is being boarded; a lonely and expensive weight on her mind.  These costs and more are coming out of a diminishing personal pocket.

Through no fault of her own, Marcia Walker has endured these long months of  ordeal, relapse, more surgery, and starting again.  Her resilience is strong and she is no stranger to difficult tasks.   We offer anyone touched by this story to help provide some relief to situation by giving what you can to this endeavor.  Her friends, community, church, and particularly one “furry-child” need her back in her element of moving about, exploring the world through words and photos, as well as sharing her many talents to others in need..

Let’s make this happen.  Marcia has given a lot in her life and she still has plenty left to do in this world. Time for us all to help a good person get back to living a healthy, active life.
