Ill update the gofund me in a bit. But they had me sign a DNR. They said she’s critical and they no longer think it’s anything to do with her stomach. They are saying it’s possibly meningitis and that she might of aspirated into her lungs and now has pneumonia. They said she’s now showing signs of back pain, blinking weird, and they think she’s lost the ability to swallow and gag. She’s being hospitalized and starting antibiotics and steroids and having X-rays done. I had to put down a down payment and we have now exceeded $2,000.
I cannot loose her! I’m so so devastated. Pleas share and do whatever you can to help. I’m just at a loss.
LP has always been a such a special girl to me. Most of you know that she is a result of my foster (fail) dog Polly. When Polly came into my life she was over half way through her pregnancy, and I knew that I had to help her. I had to be responsible for her and all the 8 little ones she brought into my life. LP (Little Polly) was named after her Mom because of how similar they are, all they want to do is make you happy. Several months went by and almost all the puppies were adopted, and still no one wanted LP. I couldn't understand why not. She was the sweetest girl, the best cuddle, and very submissive but playful with other dogs. Finally, it was her time. She got a family!! A family with kids and a fur brother! Almost two and a half years went by and her family contacted me that something was wrong. She was losing weight at a rapid speed they didn't know why, and their vets didn't know why. The family was panicked and stressed watching her wither away to skin and bones. They returned her to me in February. After several trips to the vet, and a WONDERFUL Facebook group, we decided she had EPI. EPI is exocrine pancreatic insufficiency which means her pancreas does not break down the nutrients in her food properly. Her levels are low but not technically within EPI range but the treatment for EPI, has worked wonders. This means a special diet, eating more times during the day, putting enzymes on her food, and giving the enzymes an incubation period of 45 minutes to work before feeding her at each meal. The family decided that the everyday treatment she required would be too difficult with their family at this time. So, she was back with me, and I needed to get her back in tiptop shape. She's gained like 15lbs back and was on the up and up. I've been waiting to get her to a healthy weight to begin socializing her and getting her out at adoption events. When I got her back her hip bones stuck out over an inch, you could see every rib, every backbone, and even her face was super skinny. She looked like an extremely neglected dog, even though she was FAR from that, I couldn’t handle the looks people gave her and me in public. But the time was quickly approaching for her to start the journey of finding her forever. I was so excited to find her the perfect family again. She has SUCH POTENTIAL to be the best family dog, or maybe even an emotional support dog. This dog can read your soul, she feels your feeling, she forces her love, she calms you down. She's an intuitive magical little girl. Then my world started to shatter after finding out that my oldest dog Buttkiss has Malignant melanoma, a very aggressive form of cancer. (we will be seeing an oncologist next week) So for the past two weeks all foster related progress has been on the back burner. In the early hours of Friday May 25th around 4 am LP started throwing up. By 8 am she was having trouble walking due to the pain she was in, and by 9 am she had fluid pouring out of her nose and she was peeing on herself. My regular vet couldn't see her until 5pm, and after hearing what was going on they recommended I take her straight to Blue Pearl (the closest emergency room). At Blue Pearl they did blood work, a tfast, afast, gave fluids and said the next step would be an ultrasound. The current diagnosis is gastritis, but still a possibility of pancreatitis or a blockage. I've never seen her eat toys, so I wasn't concerned about a blockage. I decided to get her on the meds they recommended, a bland diet, and try at home care. She stopped throwing up, but her walking didn't get any better, and she was still peeing on herself. Those are both signs of discomfort in the abdomen. I've been staying up with her most of the night, and last night she starting throwing up foam, and around 5 this morning she started throwing up little bits of chicken. We are now headed back to the ER to do an ultrasound and see what to do from there. I didn't know what Intussusception was, or that it was a possibility. I’ve now learned that Intussusception is when their bowels telescope in on themselves causing a blockage. I'm hoping this isn't the issue. I feel like such a failure for making this go fund me. I took her on as a responsibility when I took her mom Polly off the streets. Even though I always get the foster dogs I take on into a foster program, I always personally cover their bills. If I feel called to help a certain animal, I feel like it shouldn’t be anyone’s responsibility but my own. This time I can’t. I'm asking that you help save this perfect girl's life because I feel as if she's spiraling downward. Surgery and hospitalization could be soon. Normally I would take it in stride and just figure it out, but I've spent thousands in the past couple of months taking care of my crew and my fosters, and with Buttkiss' upcoming oncology appointment I'm panicked. Anything you can give would be so appreciated.
