MCAT books for Low-Income Students

Unleash seeks to encourage students in low income communities in the Greater Toronto Area to pursue medicine in order to end cycles of poverty, and to promote healthy living amongst their friends and family. It is evident that pursuing medicine is an expensive route to take, with MCAT books, application fees, prep courses, etc., costing thousands of dollars. Students from low-income families often don't consider this pathway due to a lack of financial support.
Our organization aims to encourage students to use their own experiences growing up in an underprivileged community to shine a light on neglected areas of medicine, such as inadequate access to health care, mental health disorders that are intensified by poverty and addiction, and stigmatizing medical interactions perpetuated by a lack of cultural diversity.
Our Mission
-Encourage students from marginalized communities to pursue medicine
-Provide assistance with regards to accessing MCAT books and assistance with fees related to attending medical conferences/prep sessions
-Provide guidance throughout students' late highschool and undergraduate careers
-Provide youth with a network of professionals and guides that can assist with their journey in medicine
As a student-led non-profit organization, we are reaching out for donations to purchase MCAT books for students who may not be able to afford them. Many of the libraries in the community have out-dated books that can only be lent out for a few weeks at a time (whereas studying for the MCAT can take over 4 months), and we aim to create a long- term rental system to help ease some of the costs for students.
Your donation could allow a student to consider medicine with greater ease and eliminate one of the barriers to pursuing a career in this field.
