Helping John Woody Recover From Car Accident

Donation protected
On Tuesday, August 20, John Woody lost control of his car while driving around a bend on a windy road on State Route 76 in California and collided into the mountainside. Thankfully, a passerby saw his vehicle and pulled John out of the car before it caught on fire and burned to the ground.

John suffered numerous injuries from the collision, including three broken ribs, a broken neck, a broken back, lacerations, a collapsed lung, a brain injury, and a spinal cord injury. At this point, the trauma doctor and the neurosurgeon treating him in the Trauma ICU have diagnosed him with Diffuse Axonal Injury Stage 3 in his brain and a Complete Spinal Cord Injury in the C2 and C3 sections. This means that John may be a quadriplegic and not regain movement from the neck down, requiring lifelong care. He will not have the neurons required to breathe on his own and will require a tracheotomy and a feeding tube. The doctors also say that John will have a cognitive disability of some type that will have to be identified later.

We are asking for financial support to help us care for our son, brother, uncle, father, friend and family member while he is hospitalized across the country in California. His mother, Valda, will use the donations to assist in transportation costs for siblings and decision-makers to fly to the hospital to visit him while he is in the most critical condition; to be in-state and help him when he is transferred to a medical treatment facility; fees incurred due to the vehicle accident; medical expenses not covered by his insurance; preparing a handicapped-accessible residency for him to return to, and transporting him back home when he is medically stable.

We are at loss for words and are saddened as a family by this sudden tragedy. We all know a lively, fun and active John, and this is striking all of us hard as a family. We want to do what is best for our son, brother, father and friend. Thank you in advance for all of your support, prayers, and concern. At this point, we are all praying for a miracle.

His immediate family has created this GoFundMe account and all donations will solely be used for medical, transportation and support costs for John Woody.
