Helping Indigenous Youth

Donation protected
Hi my name is Brie and I am a high school student and I was given a project to find ways to help Indigenous youth. I thought long and hard about the project, and then I remembered an episode of a reality tv show, where there was a very inspirational contestant who talked about life on reserves and the aftereffects of colonization. I was very inspired by him and remembered this when creating my project. On a leap of faith, I reached out to this person and to my surprise he actually took the time to respond and help me out. I have decided to start a Gofundme in the hopes to raise money for Indigenous youth. The Indigenous youth charity this is going to help, is located on a reserve in British Columbia. I chose that particular Indigenous youth charity on that reserve with the help of the inspirational person who was mentioned above.  This proceeds will benefit them with youth activities that will empower them. (Exact names are not used for privacy reasons. Please be assured of the fact that my school is monitoring this, to help ensure proceeds are going where they are said to go.) The suicide rate for First Nations male youth (age 15-24) is 126 per 100,000 compared to 24 per 100,000 for non-Indigenous male youth. For First Nations females, the suicide rate is 35 per 100,000 compared to 5 per 100,000 for non-Indigenous females (Health Canada, 2010). Suicide rates for Inuit youth are among the highest in the world, at 11 times the national average. As you can see, the mental health on some reserves are deeply affected. Let's change this generation's mental health! I am aware, many people may believe that this is not as important as urgent causes out there, but I am not asking for huge donations. I am simply asking for you to extend your hearts and donate as low as $1 even, just as a show of support and kindness. To demonstrate in unity that all teen mental health and lives matters. I know that we cannot change the past, but I believe together we can change the history that is being written today. Thank you for taking the time to hear me out, and anything else you may do to contribute to my project and the youth. :)
