I am setting up this campaign to assist my sister, Holly Thomson, who is 66 years old and lives in Greensboro, NC in a house she shared with our mother until our mother's sudden death. Holly has suffered with anxiety and agoraphobia for years and is basically housebound. I n addition to losing our mother, Holly's husband passed away unexpectedly in 2016, and she is now struggling to make ends meet and to keep up with her house. When she turned 65, her status changed from receiving disability compensation to Medicare with Medicare D subtracted.Holly has several health problems including severe dental issues. She really needs a full extraction and dentures which Medicare will not cover. Since she is unwell both physically and mentally, she pays out of pocket for home health care 31 hours a week which costs $310 which is more than she receives from Social Security which is her only income. She has been using a home equity loan to which she owes a great deal, and she is afraid she will not be able to pay her debts. She has checked for aid in North Carolina and nothing is available for her. In addition , her area was recently hit by a tornado which felled a tree on her property and left her without power for six days. My husband, Joe, and I are invested in helping her including paying for her initial dental examination and x-rays and will continue to help in other ways. Her problems, however, have become insurmountable. It is so sad that she can no longer eat solid food as everything must be pureed! It is my hope that this campaign will help her to regain some peace of mind and that she will be able to afford her dental procedures.
