Helping Holly Rebuild

On August 22nd, Hillsdale, KS was hit by heavy rain which caused severe flash flooding in Miami county forcing several families to climb up to the roofs of their homes. Holly Milkowart, a resident of Hillsdale, was trapped alone inside her home for approximately two hours before she was rescued. She kept herself afloat by standing on a door knob and holding on to the door. She would have drowned if emergency services had been delayed by another half hour. They had to break in through a window to rescue her. The electricity was on, making the water even more dangerous. Holly was able to put her four terrified dogs on a foam mattress, which kept them above the water. The dogs would have drowned if she had not been resourceful enough to put them on the floating mattress. Her farm suffered devastating loss. While trapped in the house, she could hear her goats float by crying, but was unable to save them. Holly lost fifty seven goats as well as all the chickens in a coop. The farm is a total loss. Her house is also completely ruined. All the furniture and personal property is soaked through and caked with mud; there is 10 feet of water in her basement. Marks on the wall show how high the water had risen inside. Holly is not getting help from her insurance company.
Holly has lost all her property and this experience has left her in shock. At this point, she is homeless as are her dogs and horses. She needs a safe place for herself and her animals. We hope to raise some funds to help her rebuild her life and get back on her feet. Any donation is greatly appreciated. All funds raised will directly go to Holly.
