Helping Hearts for Heroic Hailey

Donation protected
In early 2019, sweet 3-year-old, Hailey, was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a type of childhood cancer that started in her kidneys and spread to her lungs. After surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, the cancer was gone. Hailey was back to her spunky self, taking center stage whenever there was someone to hear her rock out!

However, in spring of 2020, the cancer had returned. Again, Hailey bravely fought through treatment, this time including a stem cell transplant, and was cleared of the disease in 2021.

Throughout treatment and relapse, Hailey, her mom - Emily, her dad - Mike, and brothers - Michael and Parker, remained positive and strong. They gathered crocheted hats and squishy toys during the holiday season to give back to the Pediatric Cancer Unit, where Hailey received her treatments. Hailey began to learn the ukulele, and she started kindergarten. She even got to go on stage with New Kids on the Block!

In the summer of 2021, Hailey was happy and healthy. She got a swimming pool from Make-a-Wish Foundation, cheered on her brothers at baseball, and was able to wear hair ties and clips again. Hailey grew to love reading, enjoying books such as Charlotte’s Web, and she chose to collect books for the Oncology Unit at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

In November of 2021, Hailey’s routine scans showed a new spot on one of her lungs. For 6 weeks, the family waited to see if the spot was cancer, only to find out that the spot had grown and surgery would be needed. Once it was confirmed to be cancer, Hailey was matched with a clinical trial. On February 17, 2022, after her 7th surgery, Hailey began the two year clinical trial for Wilms cancer for her third round of fighting.

On March 5, 2022, after just 3 weeks of treatment in the trial, Hailey started with fatigue, a fever, and pain. She was taken to the hospital for antibiotics, fluids, and chest x-rays. The x-rays revealed fluid on one of her lungs and more cancer. She was soon moved to the ICU at CHOP. It is there that Hailey’s family received the news that Hailey was not responding well to the trial, and there is nothing else they can do. Once Hailey is able to leave the hospital, she will be taking a chemo pill to try to keep the cancer at bay, so she can enjoy what time she has left with her family.

With the support of the friends and family of the Mientus', I have created this GoFundMe to assist the family as they navigate the upcoming trials involved with Hailey's care. Please consider donating to help the Mientus family make a few more precious memories. Money will also be going toward funeral expenses when the time comes.

Hailey is a vibrant little girl who has fought so hard in a fight no one should have to endure. She is a princess warrior, and she deserves the world.
