Help those that are hurting in Tarneit
Due to Covid-19 restrictions people are hurting through out Melbourne and beyond. Jan-Maree and I were struck by an item on ABC TV 4 Corners (28 Sept https://iview.abc.net.au/show/four-corners go to 20 minute mark ) that showed some people in Tarneit (Victoria) with children genuinely struggling to pay their electricity bill. We felt helpless watching these people talk about their distress and decided we would not go back to our relative comfort without doing something. So we are fund raising to give as many families in Tarneit three months of electricity to keep them going. So I would estimate $200 to $300 each. We have started with a target of $6000 so we could help at least 20 families or more.
Henry is a Chartered Accountant and very capable of managing and distributing the money to those in need. We have had several contacts with United Sikhs (featured in the 4 Corners story) who have a team on the ground and are assisting to identify those most needy in Tarneit. We will of course ensure not one cent is lost along the way to finding the families in need. We have set up a separate account with the Commonwealth Bank to receive and distribute the money.
Yes there are many people who need help all over Australia. We have to start somewhere; so thank you for your interest and please give what you can. As Bertrand Russell said at the end of his life: "we must learn the kind of charity and the kind of tolerance which is absolutely vital to the continuation of human life on this planet"
