Helping Hand for Pat

I’d like to take the time to write about mum, or as she’s known to others Pat, Patty, Trish, Trisha, Dork and Nanny.

Over 6 months ago mum starting experiencing vision issues in her left eye, over time it began to get worse and soon she had lost majority of her sight due to inflammation.  Jump forward to only a few weeks ago, when after a series of different specialist appointments, CT scans, MRI’s, Mammograms, Ultrsounds and Biopsies, a diagnosis was finally put on the table.  One that none of us, especially mum was expecting.  Category 3 Breast cancer of the right breast and lymph nodes.  Mums response “okay, but what about my bloody eye?!” with an added chuckle (in true Pat spirit, she’s a joker).  Those of you who know mum and her past know that this is the 3rd case of breast cancer, the last being 15 years ago which resulted in a mastectomy if her left breast.

Since the cancer diagnosis mum has had two surgeries, a lumpectomy to remove the tumor in her right breast and a series of lymph nodes in her right armpit.  The biopsies after surgery showed that the cancer was also in her milk ducts meaning she had DCIS and needed another surgery only a week after the first.  Further down the track mum will be having radiation and a long series of Chemotherapy not to mention more investigation into this “bloody eye” as we are still at a loss as to what is causing her vision complications.

Though the eye drives her mad, it truly is blessing in disguise as without the investigation into her vision we may not have known about the cancer until it was too aggressive or had spread any further.

With these medical issues ofcourse comes out of pocket expenses, and since Dad is retired and makes small amounts of money here and there by working too hard for his body, and mum being off work for a long period of time, this is where you come in, her family and friends to help should you wish.  After speaking with Christine Skinner today who had the same idea I did just a day ago we have decided to proceed with this go fund me page to surprise Mum and Dad with your support.  Pat and Ron are so loved by those who know them, and at the same time are never the people to ask for help especially when they need it the most.

We hope that what we’re asking is not too much for our very loved Pat.  A women, who despite all of her health issues over the years, always wears a smile and keeps everyone chuckling and smiling.  A women who has the ‘just get on with it’ attitude, who only 24 hours after surgery is up trying to clean the kitchen!  So let’s band together and help make this difficult time, just that little bit easier.

Thank you to everyone who has already shown so much support, for the flowers, the phone calls and the well wishes.  We appreciate this more than you’ll know.  From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
