Hello. My name is Ellis and I am part of Project Rebound and currently a full-time student at California State University—Bakersfield (CSUB), where I am majoring in Communications with an emphasis on Digital Media. I am also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. I have created a gofundme for the purpose of aiding in the purchase of a car.
Between the ages of eight and fourteen years old I became a ward of the state: going from one foster home to another, boys’ ranches, and reform school. Returning to my family was dysfunctional, and shortly after turning eighteen, I went to prison as a life term prisoner and spent 26 years incarcerated. While imprisoned, I took the time and opportunity to turn my life around, and that started by looking beyond the limitations of my confinement. My choice and path were through academics. After earning my GED, I continued my education by going to college, where I graduated with honors, earning an associate degree in Fine Arts and Humanities. Furthering my goals, in February of 2020 I was released from prison among the Covid-19 pandemic and transitioned to the campus of CSUB where I have used my grants and student loans for my tuition and student housing on campus, while working toward my bachelor’s degree.
All funding will be used for the purchase of a used car, taxes, licensing, registration and insurance cost.
I am proactive in making my life meaningful and being a contributing member of our community, and your contribution will highlight these efforts. Being isolated on campus has stunted my ability to find employment beyond walking distance, and as diverse as jobs are, many of those opportunities need my ability to commute at will. In my pursuit of autonomy and employment, I ask for your donation in helping me reach another goal.
