Helping Dana Thompson Battle Cancer

Donation protected

This is a request to help our beautiful friend, Dana Thompson. Dana is a widow and the mother of three grown children and 4 grandchildren.  Dana was recently diagnosed with a very rare and very aggressive breast cancer, Triple Negative.  At the time,  she found the mass, it was 11 cm in diameters and felt like a weight in her chest.  Women almost always find the tumor as it grows within 3 weeks.  Dana is a case study for KU as they have never had a type that is this large and aggressive with so much skin involved.  She has also been diagnosed with lymphatic cancer.  She has 4 more chemo treatments followed my mastectomy along with the removal of the lymph nodes on her left side.  Starting in January,, she will begin 8 weeks of 30 minute radiation treatments every day.  Her daily schedule is grueling with as many as 3 apt in an afternoon.   For three days after chemo,  she is out of commission and just sleeps most of it.  Dana has been put on leave from her doctors (all 15 of them as well as her work) and was told she is the only thing that mattersw right now.  We want her to be able to use the energy she has on healing and good thoughts. (the best a person can in this situation) This being said she has been fighting the usual bureaucracy of applying for grants, United Way, SS Disability, SSI, and Short Term Disability.  All of these things take  lots of time -up to 90 days and so we are setting up this page for anyone who can help make this possible for Dana, just to help pay daily expenses of living.  She would like to stay independent and live on her own, as she does not want to feel like a burden to anyone. Her expenses include gas to get to her appointments, utilities and rent.  This page is not asking you to break the bank but just to help until she can get on her feet and get through the logistics of the government system.  We may also be trying to do a benefit ride in October,  more details to follow.  Thank you for your kindness,  understanding and love.  She can beat this terrible disease but not if all her strength is being spent on worrying about how she will make it through this battle for her life.

Thank you for helping - every contribution will make a difference.

God is good is Dana's moto!  She is so brave.

We love her and need to help her.

Sincerely,

Holly Cox
