For most of his life, Clint and his four legged service dog, Lucas have sat quietly on the curb of a Waco Chick-fil-a with a sign that reads “WAR VETERAN- anything helps.”
For the past three years, I’ve driven past him, blinded by my own privilege & consumed with fear of the unknown.
That changed recently when I decided the least I could do was get a man who served his country a burrito.. & I did. After giving it to him, however, I realized upon arriving home that I had actually given him the bag with only sauce- a mistake that would both embarrass me and inspire me to go back & make it right.
What started as an accident has turned into both a viral story on the internet & a friendship that is changing & softening not only my heart- but millions of others.
As a 60 year old war veteran, Clint suffers from both Post Traumatic Stress Disorder & Parkinson’s Disease- two disabilities that don’t make life on the streets any easier. He has goals to start a flag business, have enough to give back to others in his same situation, and most importantly: secure stability in a world that has only told him “No.”
I am asking for your help in raising enough funds to permanently keep him off the streets, fund a place for him to sleep consistently, pay for his day to day needs, and hopefully help kickstart the business he’s dreamed about for years.
There is strength in numbers and love, and there has already been an outpouring of support for this hero & his puppy. In a situation like this, anything helps. Clint lives by the motto that homelessness has less to do with having a roof over your head, and everything to do with feeling unwanted and unloved by the people you served.
