Helping Agata to complete her family

Donation protected

Agata (known as Aggie) to most of us has been part of the Obex Dental Team since 2016

What better way than to hear the story of why we are fundraising in her own words how and why this is important to her, how it has affected her and how it would change her life.

below is something from Aggie :

I don’t really know where to start as it took a lot of guts and thinking to do this and to tell the world my journey and struggles of everyday life…

My name is Agata but mostly everyone knows me and calls me Aggie… I work as a dental nurse in the UK at Obex – Dental Centre since May 2016 and I’m so proud and grateful of what I have achieved since then.

I’ll begin with how my journey first started and I’ll try to keep it minimal… When I was about 20 and 24 years old I had 2 loop excisions in Poland as tests showed some high abnormalities in my cervix. At the age of 26 I had my son and after giving birth I didn’t have any gynaecology issues for a long time but was on regular checks and tests to stay clear.

Unfortunately, how it happens sometimes in life I ended up on my own with my 5 year old son. After few years of being single I moved to the UK to provide a better life and more opportunities for my son and finally find a place in this world for myself.

As people say sometimes, and I truly believe in this: Everything in our lives happens for a reason… That is I had to move across the sea to meet the love of my life…Since the day we first met, which was by the way – Valentines Day – there was an instant chemistry, he has been my best friend, helped me through bad times and supported me through the good. He believed in me more than I did myself. I don’t know where I would be in life if it wasn’t for him and my son. He is an amazing stepdad and my son completely adores him.

Suddenly in June 2016 after a regular smear test I was sent for another few tests and colposcopy with biopsy due to some new abnormalities in my cervix. The decision was to undergo another loop excision which affected my cervical length.

We got married in September 2016 and straight after this I passed my dental nursing exam in 2017. We started trying for a baby as I always wanted a big family and siblings for my son.

For over a year nothing happened and, in the meantime, I had another 2 cysts removed from my cervix and ovary. We have been referred to a Fertility Clinic and undergone lots of tests. All my husbands results were above levels, they checked my level of AMH (anti-Mullerian hormone which tells about ovarian reserve) it was 4.9 and its quite good considering my age – 42. Hysterosalpingogram told us that one of my tubes were patent and the other was inconclusive. Due to a history of cancer in my family, my age and all the issues and previous treatments we were told it’s going to be very difficult for me to get pregnant.

Doctors decided to try hormonal treatment to stimulate my ovulation so I was taking hormones for 6 months but still even while monitoring my cycles and lots of scans we didn’t succeed. We are at the stage where we want our family to grow bigger…I’m very lucky to have such a supportive husband who understands my condition, every day he cares for me and our son, every day he makes sure we have everything we need. I love this man dearly!

Finally, we have been told I can not fall pregnant without the help of IVF but even though we don’t have kids of our own together, we are not entitled for this treatment on the NHS due to me having a son from my previous relationship. We were referred to a Private Clinic where the doctor advised us we can cut the cost of IVF treatment, as it is expensive, if my husband would agree for “Sperm Share Donor Programme” where the clinic uses his sperm to assist other couples. And my lovely husband said straight away: Aggie of course we will do it, I don’t mind and this way we will help other couples which don’t even have this option at all.

Sadly, if all my issues weren’t enough, after running additional tests we were called back to the clinic and were informed my husband’s body is producing very high levels of white cells which could also be the cause of our fertility issues and it resulted in him being rejected for the sperm share donor programme. It won’t affect our treatment, however his sperm can’t be frozen for the use on other couples.

This is really something I’ve always wanted, to become a Mum again and love a little bundle of joy just as much as they love me. My son used to ask me: Mum why can’t I have a brother, I want to have a brother… I had to explain to him at that time …: First we need to find a husband for Mummy

Now, when everything has settled in our lives, we still miss this small piece in our Family… It’s in my face every day…my friends having babies, seeing the lady on the street or patients at work heavily pregnant to then seeing mothers pushing their babies in their prams with a smile because they have been blessed with such a gift…I envy these women and I’m also so happy for these women…I want to be one of those women. Most days I feel like I’m so worthless…It came to the point it was affecting my life so much I had to look for help from specialists in Mental Health Wellbeing.

I can’t fall pregnant naturally and sadly IVF is expensive for us, we are also looking for options abroad as well… So until my Manager, who is also a friend, mentioned to me after hearing my struggles about go fund me and fundraising for me and my husband to fund our IVF journey I thought why not?

I have worked at my Dental practice for over 3 years, helping and caring for patients, I have an amazing team and people who truly know me, know I will help anybody no matter what. I don’t want people to feel sorry for me or give me sympathy, I just want people to understand that all I want in this life more than anything is a baby, a chance to be a Mum again, for my husband to be a Dad and for my son to be a Big Brother. A baby to love and care for, a baby that will make our family complete, will be loved by its Mummy, Daddy and Brother and will have the world and more.

Thank you for reading my story and trying to understand our journey, I know it’s still a long journey but I’m grateful for all the support I have so far from Family, Friends and I’m so grateful for any donation small or large that has been made.

Lots of love and may God bless you all Aggie
