Helping Addie Cat with her vet bills
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Angel. Addie is my best friend. She is the most loving and silly cat I’ve ever known. She holds my heart and a very special place in my life.
Recently she was at the vet for an infection that was found in her mouth, which likely spread to her blood stream. We got her into oral surgery where they cleaned out the infection, and found & removed a broken tooth. During and after surgery, Addie had a bad reaction to the anesthesia. This caused her heart rate and temperature fall abnormally low. She was held in recovery for extra time to ensure she was okay. When she came home, she wasn’t herself for days; which is not typical post oral surgery.
I noticed that she started doing a very heavy sigh, multiple times throughout the day. She would sigh when laying down, sigh when grooming herself, sigh after using her scratcher, or sigh after playing with a toy.
I shared this info with her vet, and she decided to take a couple X-rays of her heart. She showed me the X-rays and pointed out how abnormally large her heart is, stating that it is 25-30% larger than normal, and that an artery leading to her heart was extremely swollen. She also mentioned that Addie’s heart was distended and sitting abnormally low in her body, pushing against her rib cage.
She said it looks like heart disease (and another condition that I forget the name of but will update here later,) and that it is possible that the oral surgery exasperated an underlying condition…
We decided that I would continue to watch Addie to monitor the sighing, until I can afford to get her a CT/MRI (I can’t remember which scan it was) of her heart, an EKG, as well as some blood tests. It is possible her condition can be maintained with medication, and in some cases it will require surgery. The long term outlook of this condition isn’t very positive and it didn’t sound like many options were available. She is only 5 and I need her to be with me for a long time.
In addition to the scans, blood tests, vet visit cost, the cost of her X-rays, the treatment plan, her recent procedure, and possible need for future surgery, I would also really like to take her to a cat cardiologist so they can provide me with a more specialized opinion… just so I can be sure I'm doing the right thing. All of this is adding up so fast.
Any donations to this cause are so very appreciated and so needed. If you are unable to give, we accept well wishes and prayers. Thank you!
