Help MCS Students Learn and Succeed

Who Are We?

Can you imagine a child hiding from learning the first month of school, and writing “I LOVE SCHOOL” by the third month? Do you dream of taking your child from hating math to loving the creative side of math and asking to work on Algebra? Did you know it’s possible to take a 6th grader from not knowing how to write to taking fourth out of over 300 entries in the SF Science Fair? This and so much more has been achieved at here at My City School!

My City School is celebrating its fifth year, not just as a school, but as a resource center for families and educators. Over the last four years, we have been integrating knowledge from recent studies on how learning in the brain happens, and applying these findings to our approach to the learning process. Because the changes observed in our children have been so transformative, (both academically and emotionally) we want to share our tools with others interested in reaching a deeper level of understanding and application in education. It’s how we integrate these techniques, in conjunction with multiple learning styles, that make it possible for this transformation to happen.

Creating our program has been so uplifting and rewarding for our students, but we can’t do it alone. Our team of five learning specialists, and countless volunteers help make our vision a reality and bring our students’ dreams to life. We are asking for your support to help us cover a portion of our operational costs, so we can continue to provide opportunities for our students, including technology upgrades, the development of curriculum, learning tools, and experiential learning opportunities!

Our Story

MCS was started as a STEAM school for students who were struggling to learn in a traditional educational environment. We as educators firmly believe that all students, even those who struggle with reading, writing and math, should be given the chance achieve their dreams of becoming scientists, chefs or even astronauts!

With the help of learning and content specialists, we discovered that when students had an opportunity to focus on their weaker skills using hands-on experiences in a more interesting context, and approach their learning through individualized styles that work for them, their academic skills not only got stronger, but their self-confidence in their learning bloomed magnificently as well!

It is our dream to continue to develop and share our innovative learning environment with everyone, and provide tools to any student, teacher, and parent who need them! Our new discoveries are helping to prepare students for an unknown future with a 21st Century education – one that embraces risk taking, design thinking, and social-emotional wellness -- and open the doors for teachers searching for hope in education.

Why Support the MCS Annual Fund?

My City School is a small non-profit that runs entirely on tuition and donations from people like you. It's through the generosity and loyalty of our community and parents, alumni and trustees, and faculty that My City School is able to offer such a deep and transformative educational experience.  By contributing to MCS, you are helping us to continue to serve not only our current students, but share our tools and resources with students, families and teachers throughout the Bay Area. Together, we can help change education, and provide students with the help they need and deserve!

How Will My Gift be Used?

All gifts, no matter what size, touch every aspect of life at My City School. Your contribution will help us:

· Ensure a 3:1 teacher student ratio and continue to provide individualized instruction

· Meet our budget needs to cover important operational costs, additional school supplies, and learning experiences that make abstract concepts concrete.

· Raise the bar for each child's learning growth, beyond what's typically thought possible

·  Provide necessary technology updates, such as computers and learning software, for our students

Why is This So Important to Us?

MCS strives to not only be a place where students can become actively and kinesthetically involved in their learning, but also as a resource for parents and teachers who have been struggling to find the right resources to support their kids. With your involvement, we can continue to develop and share our successful discoveries with individualized curriculum and make it accessible for all students, including those with learning disabilities!

Thank you for all your support! Please feel free to share our story with friends and family. Learn more at our website and on our Facebook page!
