Help Homeless Families at Monte

I am the Homeless Education Liaison for Monte del Sol Charter School in Santa Fe, NM, a public school serving grades 7-12.   100% of funds raised for our  Homeless Education Program go directly to students and families who qualify for assistance under the Mickinney Vento Homeless Education Act.   Their needs are great: food & adequate shelter, help with transportation to work (many of our teens must support themselves and/or their families), warm clothing.  Clothing is often generously donated, but there is never enough food.   

No donation is too small!

Homeless students are invisible in plain view in our public schools.   No one wants to look homeless, and most homeless teens are indetectable among their peers. There are 12,000 homeless youths in New Mexico, that we know about.  The actual number is much higher.

For these students, school is often the only place they can get a hot meal and a feeling of routine and normalcy.   We have a great school lunch program.  Our Homeless program provides breakfast foods, snacks throughout the day, and groceries, backpacks, and clothing to take home.   We refer students to counseling, food pantries, medical services, and many other community services, and we are there when they need someone to talk to.   Our goal is to see them succeed, graduate, and go to college.
