Let's Get Geordie On His Feet!

November 27, 2017 started like many other days for Geordie Horan. It was also the last day he walked.
That morning at work, Geordie was changing hydraulic lines when he jarred his back. It was painful and took his breath away, but he was able to head home early in the hope that rest would help shake it off. Once home, he quickly started losing sensation in his legs - so quickly that within a few hours, his girlfriend Dayna called an ambulance and he was rushed to the hospital.
Within hours of being admitted, Geordie underwent emergency surgery to relieve compression on his spine and to regain feeling in his legs. The surgery was unsuccessful and he remains paralyzed from the ribs down.
Since his surgery, Geordie has been recovering at The Miller Center. He has been doing hours and hours of physical and occupational therapy and learning skills to live independently in a wheelchair. He will be discharged from rehab and returning home at the end of February.
Our ultimate goal is to literally get Geordie on his feet and walking again by getting him into a spine rehabilitation center in the United States. The doctors in St. John's have been wonderful, however Geordie's condition is extreme and atypical and he cannot access the treatment he needs here in NL. Costs of treatment in the US will be very high but it is his best shot at regaining full use of his legs and learning how to walk again - and meeting our funding goal is an amazing step towards the ultimate goal!
As always, Geordie is in good spirits and is determined to acheive his goals despite facing an unthinkable situation and a gruelling road ahead. Every contribution, no matter the size, gets Geordie one step closer to taking his first step after this tragic accident.
