Gem’s Medical Expenses

Update
(Please see the “Updates ” section for more details)
Gem is back in the hospital. Complications have set in. The trauma of the blunt force by the vehicle has caused the tissue around the injured area to die. The staples and sutures weren't staying in and that's why: necrosis. Her dislocated hip also required Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) surgery to keep in permanently in place. Poor puppy.

Story:

I found a ~1-year-old very friendly, playful, and loving silky terrier mix with no collar, tags, or microchip while desperately searching for my family’s own missing pup. My son temporarily named her Gem (because she's so precious) as we took her in to our home to try and find her family as we very much hope someone would do for ours.

She was in distress as she had been clipped by a vehicle. We brought her to an emergency animal clinic who said the accident dislocated her hip and cut her legs. The bills (exams, x-rays, procedures, relocating the hip, FHO surgery, medications, daily bandage changes, supplies, etc.) have come to a little more than $4,200 so far, and rising (estimated to get to $6,000 by the time she's healthy).

I've paid all of the bills up front (see scans below), but am asking the puppy-loving community for help for this affectionate little girl as we take care of her and her injuries — and continue the search for her owner(s) for as long as it takes.

Thank you for whatever you can spare! It shouldn’t take too many of the awesome animal supporters in the greater Austin area to whittle down this large expense with small tokens of generosity.

Post in Austin Lost and Found Pets Facebook group searching for her owner.
