Help Gae Regain Her Independence!

"Help Gae Regain Her Independence"

We are asking, friends, family, and the community to help support this vibrant woman who has done so much for us in so many different ways.

We (Amy & Adam) are writing this letter because our mom suffered a large hemorrhagic brain aneurysm or more commonly known as a brain bleed. This type of stroke is rare (<10%) and the survival rate from the set of onset is <50%.

It was 6pm on Wednesday, November 26th, 2014  (the day before Thanksgiving) when Adam and Gae were out to dinner when the stroke occurred. She loss all feeling on her entire right side and could not move her leg, arm, hand, or fingers. Speaking, word finding and her normal thought process were virtually nonexistent. However, as God would have it, Adam was with her that night, and because of that, we are forever grateful as she most certainly would not be here today.

We all know that our mom is a FIGHTER and she continues to work incredibly hard to regain her independence and life back. She has spent nearly the last 2 months rehabbing in hospital care facilities from this life alternating event and is finally well enough to live on her own! She has far EXCEEDED any prognosis set before her. Unfortunately for now, she has had to move out of her current residence and into an independent living facility to help continue her rehab. She will continue to need in-home therapies, assistive devices, and continued support for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately the reality of being on a fixed income is daunting and the medical bills are beginning to pile up.

She has overcome more health complications in one year than anyone would care to experience in a lifetime. However, she continues to fight and thrive. She still has a lot to live for and her relentless work ethic is truly eye-opening. We are inspired by the improvements she makes every day and she makes us want to be better people.

Our mom has always been a giver with an enormous heart. Please give back to our family, as she has always given back to her family, friends, coworkers, church, and community members. Any gift will help her ease the financial burden of the aftermath of her stroke and if nothing else, prayers will always lift her spirit.
