Gabrielle's Study Abroad Fund

Donation protected

Hi there and welcome to Gabrielle’s GoFundMe page! Gabrielle Armon-Wickers is a proud junior at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has been a consistent A student and is currently a member of The National Honor Society, vice president of the Northside YMCA Teen Achievers program, head captain of the RKHS Dance Team and a volunteer of numerous organizations that tend to the positive development of her community.  Her thirst for learning complex concepts has been evident to her teachers, as she has been chosen, two years in a row, to travel abroad to Africa and Europe.  Coming from a single parent home, it was difficult to find funding for those trips. But Gabrielle, her family and loved ones are not willing to quit - hence this page!

Check out some photos of this beaming teen…

These two teens are unstoppable.  Here Gabrielle stands with her best friend, Kaylah, at the YMCA Teen Achievers annual breakfast at Harley-Davidson.  The two will be traveling, along with about 20 other like-minded teens, to North Carolina for the HBCU tour in late March 2018.

Gabby’s relationship with her grandparents is adorable.  In addition to loving her to pieces, they have interesting conversations about her future.  This pic shows her grandpa telling her to DREAM BIG!

Gabrielle’s mother has made it a point to surround her with people that are loving, supportive and positive.  In this pic is Gabrielle, ‘TT Teresa’ (as Gabby likes to call her), and her mom, Keshena. Can’t you feel the love???

A close friend of the family recommended that Gabrielle check out the CIEE Global Navigator Program . This program prepares high school students to navigate across languages, engage with cultures, and address global or local issues in today’s interconnected world.  Thru CIEE, Gabrielle wants to study in Spain for the first semester of her senior year and she is doing everything in her power to make it happen.

When asked why she would want to do something like this Gabby said, “By studying abroad, I want to experience a brand-new country with incredible new outlooks, customs and activities. I also think that completely immersing myself in the education system will be a terrific way to really take in and understand the people, their traditions and culture. Studying abroad would help me continue to learn the Spanish language that I've been studying for the past three years, and there is no better way to learn than to dive right in.”

It's no secret that one of the biggest benefits of studying abroad is the opportunity to meet new friends from various backgrounds.  Gabby is looking forward to this opportunity because she knows this journey will, no doubt, assist her in future aspirations. Gabrielle's goal is to become an OB/GYN, after graduating college and to use what she has learned to help people from diverse cultures.

“Putting this trip on college applications will help give people an understanding of how serious I am about education and applying my knowledge to help others around me.  I am open-minded and ready to learn about myself and the world. Your help of a seed, planted at this point in my development, large or small, can influence the trajectory of my life in a positive, lasting way.”
