Sher Wilson Recovery

On BC Family Day, February 12, 2018, Sher Wilson was the victim of an attempted murder at the hands of her own son in the apartment they both shared.

In Sher's words:

"In an absence of any argument, turmoil, disagreement or provocation...with his last words to me being "I love you mom...thank you for letting me live with you"...he struck me in the head from behind with a claw hammer. After striking me likely 80x repeatedly I was then confined to a dark bathroom and terrorized through the door verbally as he made repeated attempts to body-slam the door and destroy it with the same hammer...this lasted for APPROXIMATELY 8 hours until I had one opportunity to escape."

Injuries include:
Head injury...multiple open wounds from the claw hammer that managed to get in between both my arms and hands, which I used to shield my head...vertigo and head pain ensued.

Left side injuries requiring surgical intervention:
Broken elbow...now hinged and pinned
Triceps surgically repaired
Forearm and hand tendons repaired
Loss of left peripheral vision with left turning of neck

Right-side injuries requiring surgical intervention:
Forearm and hand tendons reconstructed
Crushed metacarpals
2 broken phalanges...#s 2 and 3
1 badly twisted and disfigured 5th phlange
Abrasions and bruises over legs and back

Sher has worked her entire life as a Paralegal typing 120WPM and is now permanently disabled from continuing her career. When the attack transpired, Sher was on employment insurance and seeking employment in her new city of residence (having relocated in mid-December 2017...only WEEKS before this transpired. The employment insurance was her only source of income.. Had any of these injuries occurred in an automobile accident or work related accident, insurance would have provided for life and rehabilitation needs, however, a criminal act such as this now leaves her in dire straights.

Trauma-based counselling will be mandatory/necessary to achieve any control over the severe PTSD she now experiences. The BC Victims of Crime system will commit to a few weeks of this counselling, however, this could take years and will be very costly.
