Mireille's heart attack fund

History:

After retiring in 2010, my wife and I moved to Mexico for two reasons.

1                    To do missionary work teaching the Bible to English speaking people

2                    I never was very good at making money and could survive better in Mexico

After being apprised that although Medicare takes money from our SS, but doesn’t pay anything outside of the US, we opted to keep our money and work with Mexico’s medical systems as expenses are generally very reasonable here.  That worked fine for 7 years till my wife had a  heart attack last March, and in the process of scanning, it was determined that she had a small aneurism near her spleen, & the cardiologist claimed it needed surgery.

However we couldn’t find a doctor anywhere near here that would do it without leaving open the option of  blood transfusion , which is not an option for us.  So we were encouraged to go to Shands hospital attached to University of Florida Med school in Gainseville , Florida, where the Vascular team ultimately determined that her diagnosis was bogus and did not require surgery as the aneurism was too small,  had calcified, was decades old, and would probably never chane.  But in the process the hopital performed some 7 tests on her heart, and while they gave her a clean bill of health, the whole procedure left us with a $7600 bill.  That on top of the $5000 I had already spent in emergency rooms and tests here in Mexico before the trip to Florida, coming to aa total of around $12,500.  Our families have given us $1000, but cannot afford more.

To add insult to injury, Mexico’s national policy is to not insure people over 64, and international insurances generally stop at 75.  I am 74 & my wife is 77.  So we can’t get insurance, and can’t afford to live in the US.  Additionally I feel it would be irresponsible to not now apply for Medicare for my wife, which, with 12 years of penalties, will amount to an additional cost of $300 a month, making it even harder to maintain an even keel. We’re on the edge as it is.
So…any help we could get toward the $12,600 this situation has cost us so far, would be very much appreciated.
