Relief for Mexico Earthquake

Donation protected
On September 19, Mexico experienced a massive earthquake that spanned from coast to coast, touching the States of Oaxaca, Guerrero, Puebla and Mexico City. As of today, Thursday 21, the death toll has increased to more than 200, and is expected to continue doing so as rescuing efforts keep removing debris from collapsed buildings.

As Latinos and Mexicans away from home, we can sometimes feel powerless in these situations. However, we believe that we can bring hope and change collectively. That's why, the Latin American students association at  MIT School of Architecture and Planning, Latinx, will be raising money through this fundraiser to help fund the relief efforts in Mexico City. American friends and International family, for those of you who know members of this group, or have friends and family in Mexico, please consider donating. There are no small donations: 1 dollar can help buy up to 4 bottles of water in Mexico. We can really make a change and help our Mexican brothers and sisters.

The campaign goal is set at 5,000, and the money will be transferred to Carlos Slim Foundation, the wealthiest man in Mexico, and who promised to donate 5 times the amount we individually or collectively donate.  You can find a note on this written by the Telegraph  and Forbes here  and here .

If you have more questions about this fundraiser, please don't hesitate to visit Latinx facebook webiste here . Send us a Message and we will reply as soon as possible. You can also contact one of our members and who set up this fundraising campaing, Ricardo Campos, here: [email redacted]

Because the campaign is gaining momentum, I (Ricardo) want to elaborate more on who we are and how we are planning to get the funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiary. As I mentioned, the account is set up with my name and profile (Ricardo Martínez Campos), a recent MIT alumn from DUSP SA+P, and member of Latinx, the Latin American student association at DUSP+SAP. Instead of donating directly to the Red Cross or other organization actively working in Mexico in releif efforts, we will donate it to Slim Foundation

Donating to Slim Foundation is a way to maximize the donations, since the Foundation will give 5 times the amount of money we donate. The transfer will be made from my account directly to the Slim Foundation Account.

Lets stay together in this hard moments for Mexico and the world.

Sincerely,
Andrea Baena, Marcela Angel and Juan Constain, Latinx leadership
