Scherer Family Fund

This gofundme has been set up to help my neice, Jenessa,  and her family.  Jenessa and Chris, her husband, have a son, Alex that is five-years old.  And last month, Jenessa gave birth to precious little Luna.

Luna Reese Scherer was born on December 3, 2017.

Soon after Luna came home from the hospital, Jenessa and Chris realized that Luna was having respiratory distress, choking during her feedings and seemed to have difficulty breathing.  So they took her to the hospital, where she was admitted to the NICU and after extended testing was diagnosed with severe Laryngomalacia.

Laryngomalacia is a congenital softening of the tissues of the larynx (voice box) above the vocal cords. It the most common cause of noisy breathing in infancy The laryngeal structure is malformed and floppy, causing the tissues to fall over the airway opening and partially block it.

For most infants, laryngomalacia is not a serious condition — they have noisy breathing, but are able to eat and grow. A small percentage of babies with laryngomalacia do struggle with breathing, eating and gaining weight. These symptoms require prompt attention.  Luna is one of those babies.

At a week old, Luna had a barium swallow test and failed, so to keep her from developing more severe respiratory issues or pneumonia they put in a nasal feeding tube and are now requiring all her feedings be done via her feeding tube.

Three weeks have passed and a second swallow test was done a few days ago, which Luna failed again.

Luna has to be fed every two hours via the tube and because Jenessa is hoping at some point to resume nursing, her time between feedings is spent pumping and preparing the tubing for the next feeding.  In three weeks they will assess her again. If she has not improved, surgery is the next path. With the severity of her condition, this may be her only option to help her thrive, breathe, and gain normal weight. While the surgery may help improve her condition, it is not a guarantee, and may require further intervention. Luna and her family have a long road of recovery ahead of them.

Right now, Luna requires around-the-clock care.  With maternity leave savings running out, it  will be very challenging for Jenessa to return to work, leaving their family with a very limited income. The family is struggling to keep their heads above water. Any amount will be appreciated and if you can’t afford to give please share in the hopes that others may help.

We are all praying for a big miracle for such a small sweet girl, and her family that loves her very very much.

Thank you so much and God Bless you!
