Help For John's FND/Seizure Journey

Donation protected
On Tuesday, March 19th, 2019, my world changed. I collapsed on my floor and was unconscious in front of my daughter. My wife found me and when I came to, I threw up, couldn’t stand or move my arms and legs, and realized I was blind. I couldn’t see anything. I spent 4 days in intensive care at Central Maine Medical. I had 4 MRIs and 5 CT scans. After consulting with a neurologist from Harvard Medical, the Neuro team at Central Maine Medical, and the trauma team, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder.

FND is where your brain sends the wrong signals to different parts of your body. For example, I can’t walk because my brain is sending the “pins and needles” feeling to my feet and amplifying it times 100. My vision is limited to 20-30 feet in front of me. I can’t walk, can barely see, and can’t drive. I also can no longer play guitar. It’s soul-crushing. It’s like my life has been taken from me.

After receiving my FND diagnosis, I began to develop petite mal seizures. My body would basically freeze like a computer and be forced to restart every time. They would cause me to lose vision again, along with needing 3-4 hours afterwards to start to feel normal.

I decided to fly to FL to see my parents and take some of the stress off my wife. While here, I’ve been my seizures have progressed into grand mal seizures. It hasn’t started to get better yet, but I’m a fighter.

The goal of this GoFundMe is designed to raise enough money to get treatment at Drexel University from Dr. Jill Farmer or from the University of Louisville CORE program. Both established leaders in the FND space. All funds raised will be for my medical care.

Anything leftover after I get to see my specialists will help with bills and such. I am currently working on a startup business and my wife Megan is a chef at Woodhull Public House, which has been amazingly support I’ve throughout this journey.

Even if you can’t donate, if you could share this, that would be wonderful.
