Help for Carter

In August 2018, we took Carter to colchester general hospital after a fall at home. We suspected he had broken his leg as he was unable to put any weight on it.

On arrival at the hospital we was quickly seen, the doctors kept on commenting on Carters pale skin and his bruising on his legs. They asked if he could have some bloods taken to ‘rule anything out.’

Only a short time later the doctor came in and asked to speak to us in private. We could just see the sadness and the ghostly look on her face as she came in to our room.

It’s bad news isn’t it?
The doctor explained carter had blast cells, extremely low platelets and heamaglobin. She suspected Carter had leaukemia and we would need to be transfered straight to Addenbrookes Hospital.

On arrival at Addenbrookes, Carter deteriorated very quickly. They tried to cannulate him over 25 times with no luck which meant we needed to be taken into theatre for a Central line (wigglys) to be fitted. Due To Carter needing so much fluid in theatre (blood transfusion, platelet transfusion and hypo-hydration) Carter managed to get fluid on his lungs. Recovery was honestly dreadful!

On the 14th August 2018 Carter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leaukemia. Carter is due to under go 3 and half years of chemo. We was told we would spend 12 days as a inpatient and then the rest could be done as a outpatient with regular trips to the hospital unless Carter became unwell.

Lets just say Carters journey hasn‘t gone as smoothly as we could of liked. Carter has had multiple central line infections which has turned septic and required emergency surgery to remove his line. He has managed to get holes in his lines, snap them in half and also pulled out multiple cannulas. He has suffered from horrible side effects from the chemotherapy.

We are coming up to nearly a year passed diagnosis and it really isn’t getting much easier. We have so far spent less than a month at home.

Carter has two sisters at home Trinity and Scarlett, who are finding this extremely hard.

As you can imagine our family’s life has been turned upside down. Dan (Carters Dad) is trying to keep the girls’ life as normal as possible whilst spending as much time as possible with Carter and still holding a full time job.

Any donations will go towards making Carter’s life easier when he returns home from the hospital by making the garden Carter- proof and making memories as a family.

Carter is so vulnerable at the moment we feel we need to allow his immune system to strengthen; therefore we would like to make his home place as happy and cheerful space as possible.

A huge thank you from the bottom of our hearts
