I wanted to do this for my brother and his family.
He and his ex-wife's mother have been raising 3 children now almost completely alone for the past 2.5 years. Their mother left them and my brother. He is only the biological father to the youngest who is 6. He has been a step dad to the older kids since they were 3 and 5, they are now 11 and 13. The kids grandmother has always been consistent in their lives, caring for them daily as though she was the parent. All you want to do as a parent is shield your child from hurt and pain. It is nearly impossible when one of the parties does not do what is best for their children. After a long battle, they had to make the decision to bring this to the courts with the hope that they see the damage that has been done, and take away the agony, anxiety and mental abuse that they have been inflicted with, so that these kids can live happy lives in a loving environment where they can thrive.
These kids have suffered an unfair amount of pain already and are at risk of losing the only stable living situation they have known.
Their grandmother and father/step-father (my brother) are working hard to avoid another disruption in their lives, but they need help.
Money is tight. Over the years my family and I have tried to help as often as was needed but with other expenses in our lives, sadly we cannot do as much as we would like.
I never thought I would go this route as we were all just trying to chip in but I am really hoping that we can get them the help they need. Help get them solidify the kids home life. They are great people and just trying to build a loving home for the 3 kids (and their uncle as he prepares to hopefully receive a new heart soon).
