Help Ajea Walk

This is Ajea, and he is a 4 year old living on the beautiful tropical island of Grenada.

We are close friends with his family and need your help to assist this family with helping their toddler walk and regain the normal function of his legs.

Ajea’s suffers from Genu varum/Blout's disease, a deformity marked by bowing at the knees. Treatment for Blount’s disease usually involves a combination of non-surgical and surgical measures, including wearing a special brace.

A couple of years ago, Ajea travelled to the neighbouring island of Barbados to be fitted with special leg braces in an attempt to resolve this problem without costly surgical intervention. The brace, known as a modified knee-ankle-foot orthosis (KAFO), has been worn day and night (23 hours a day) for over a year. This releases the compression in the knee area to allow a child’s legs to grow normally. Young children with Blount’s disease may not need surgery if the brace alone corrects the problem. Unfortunately, after recent doctor visits and multiple expert medical opinions, he now requires major orthopedic surgery to gain proper function of his legs.

This is where we are looking for your help! Ajea’s parents need to take him to the United Kingdom to perform major orthopedic surgery. This surgery cannot be done in Grenada due to the limited medical resources. It is estimated that for Ajea and his parents to travel to the United Kingdom, complete the operation and stay for recovery will cost around $100,000 East Caribbean Dollars. That works out to around $37,000 USD, $48,000 CAD or $31,500 GBP (based on rates of 24/08/2022)

This opportunity means so much to all of us, especially because of how kind and humbling Ajea's family has been to us. We recently moved to Grenada, and every member of his family has unconditionally welcomed us into their lives, home and country. They are kind and humble people that have been put in this unfortunate situation of watching their child suffer with very little financial assistance to get him what he needs.
