HELP DR. RIZKALLA AND HER FAMILY STAY TOGETHER IN THE U.S

Dr. Niveen Rizkalla is a Palestinian native, a UC Berkeley postdoc, holds a PhD and a Masters in Social Work, and has been my great friend and mentor over the past year.

As a student at UC Berkeley, I met Dr. Rizkalla while she was a postdoc researching the adverse impact on aid workers who work with refugees and war traumatized populations, and the mental health impact of the Syrian war on displaced Syrians. Her current ongoing study aims to offer an innovative global perspective on the mental health of aid workers and create a working model, which may alleviate their physical and mental health suffering. Very few dedicate themselves to this essential field of research, and Dr. Rizkalla is driven to give a voice to the underserved who are often left unheard, whose narratives have been marginalized.

Dr. Rizkalla is a hardworking and passionate educator and scholar, whose ambition led her to accomplish a tremendous amount in her years of research. However, she does not have adequate funds to support her study at UC Berkeley and thus faces unemployment. Without this job, Dr. Rizkalla, her husband, and young daughter will face immense financial struggles.

Without employment by the university, Dr. Rizkalla’s visa would be invalidated and her family will have to leave the U.S. Unfortunately, Dr. Rizkalla is unable to return home overseas and she and her family do not have a stable place to relocate.

WE NEED YOUR HELP:

In order to keep Dr. Rizkalla and her family in the U.S, where she can continue her groundbreaking research, she needs to raise at least $60,000 as soon as possible. The funds will be spent on her research project. This includes funding for a project manager, data collection, translation of surveys into multiple languages, data software, data analysis and creating a model that will be implemented to train staff members in NGOs who work in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

If Dr. Rizkalla secures funding for her research, she will remain employed, her visa will be extended, and she can continue living in the U.S with her family.

We are asking you to donate what you can to help Dr. Rizkalla and her family, to support a Palestinian woman who has dedicated her career to help those in crisis.

Additionally, I am currently communicating with Dr. Rizkalla through email, phone, and personal meetings. I granted Dr. Rizkalla with sole access to withdraw donations, so I will not be handling the withdrawals.

Thank you.

My name is Rahma Arafa from California. I met Dr. Rizkalla as a student at UC Berkeley where she was my research mentor.  I have been regularly contacting her via email. As stated above, these funds will be spend on her research, for her team and data collection/evaluation (see above for specifics). I have made Dr. Rizkalla as the beneficiary of this campaign to withdraw the funds.

Thank you again for your donations.
