Help Me Help Others

Donation protected
UPDATE:  Thanks to you, I am halfway through the Speech Language Therapy Assistant program at CCC&TI!  I am so excited to graduate in May!  THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!!

I need help with school and medical expenses in order to help those with speech disorders and those in poverty!
Asking for help this way is extremely difficult, and I wish there were another way...but, I have exhausted all other options.  If you read on, you will find that this is a plan that helps me, others, AND me to help others.  Additionally, I would like to give something for any help I get.  There is a list of services/gifts each donor can choose from at the bottom of this page, or please let me know if there is Anything else I can do for you!  Thank you from the bottom (and the top) of my heart! ;)

NOTE: Please only contribute if you can afford to!  I appreciate $5 as much as $100, but I am only asking for help from those who have the money for it!  Please don't feel bad if you cannot help.

What I am asking for:

*The ability to complete my education to become a Speech Language Pathologist and help children and adults with speech difficulties.

*The ability to discover and treat my medical condition so that I can work full time.  My muscle problem appears to be Multiple Sclerosis or something related.  (A family doctor thinks it's MS, but I haven't been able to see a neurologist yet due to the cost.  I make $600 a month, yet Obamacare would cost me $350 a month with a $5000 deductible!)

*The ability to provide free speech therapy and English language lessons to the most poor citizens of Vietnam and other struggling countries.  (And, my lofty goal... to be instrumental in establishing free English language centers in these countries)

*The ability to live my life with purpose, helping others in tremendous ways and changing the world for the better. The ability to live my dreams!

The Plan, in a Nutshell:

There is more about this below, but basically it works like this:

donations go toward--->education and medical expenses, so I can provide--->free English lessons, which = more adults with successful jobs and fewer children in poverty

My Medical Mystery

I first noticed weakening of my muscles and increased pain level in 1992.  To be short, over the past twenty years I have had several 'episodes' with new and/or worsening symptoms.  These include my muscles not being able to hold my head up for a few days, being unable to walk at times, loss of bladder control, and suddenly experiencing violent spasms all over my body when relaxing.  (That last symptom has been for years and makes it incredibly hard to sleep.  Combine that with the fact that I have sleep apnea, and, well...I'm often a walking zombie, as someone once told me!)  I am unable to stand in one place for more than 20-30 minutes without tremendous pain.  I am in pain all the time, but it only becomes unbearable with increased stress.  Due to these factors, I am very limited in the type of work that I can do.
I am so blessed to be in the SLP assistant program!  The work is exactly what I've wanted to do to help children, but it is also done sitting down for almost the whole day, which means I can handle it because the pain level will be low.

My Work History

In spite of the pain I am constantly in, I have worked for the past 25 years...full time before my muscle problems began and full or part time afterwards, as even part time is very stressful for me due to pain.  For the past year and a half, I have been struggling to find work that I can handle.
I am SO embarrassed to be asking for help. However, with this plan, the donations pay for much more than my own education and medical bills...they pay for others' success as well!

--KNOWING ENGLISH CAN LITERALLY SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE IN OTHER COUNTRIES--

When I visited Vietnam for a month in 2007, I saw how vital knowing the English language was to the people there.  Knowing English meant the difference between a job that paid well and a job that paid so little that a family couldn't survive.  Unfortunately, those who needed it most did not have the money for English classes or to go to a University.  I know it's a common story...and that it happens all over the world.  I also know that millions of impoverished lives have been greatly improved because someone, somewhere did something about it!  I ache to be one of those someones!  I wish I had the money to do it myself and didn't need to ask for help...
As working as an SLP assistant in elementary schools means that I will have summers off (though I plan to work a job during the summer as well), I will be able to spend 2-4 weeks a year doing volunteer trips to other countries, providing free English lessons.  I have also found volunteer programs where I will be able to help speech therapists!

I feel so GREATLY BLESSED by all of you who have already contributed to my success...whether monetarily or by giving moral support or praying...I need all the prayers I can get!  ;) I hope to be able to pay you all back someday soon!  Thank you!!
