Hello,
My name is Emily and I'm trying to raise money for my father, Darryl. He has hit a severe financial hardship that he has been struggling with for the past 9 years. On June 17th, 2016, he is going to lose his home. That's 3 weeks from now.

It all began back in 2005 when I lost my mother, Patricia, to ALS. I watched my mother suffer for 4.5 years from this awful disease. Not only did I watch my mother suffer, but I watched my father suffer too. Suffer from the depression of seeing his loving wife dying beside him. Suffer from the pain of having to care for her and still work to bring home some money. Suffer from the sad, fear-filled stress of having to raise his young daughter alone while helping her cope with the loss of her mother. After her passing, my father was influenced from a high school friend of his to leave our home in Jersey City and move to the suburbs of Bergen County. My father thought it would be best to do so as to get away from the pain of the past 4.5 years. Upon arriving in Bergen County, my father proceeded to rent an apartment for him and I. A chance to start over. A chance to cope.

A year or so goes by and my father has grown closer to the friend who helped us move. Confiding in her, reaching out to her for help with coping over his wife and in turn us helping her when she would need it. Paying her rent when she was low on cash, helping buy food/things for her family. Among other things, the cycle began to become vicious. Before I knew it, we were going to be leaving our comforting apartment and moving into her home with her family. This is where things went downhill. In May of 2007, my father bought the home she was living in with her family. She contributed a small amount to the down payment but my father held title on the deed & mortgage. After buying the home, she manipulated my father into going on an essential shopping spree. Flat screen tvs, new furniture, new cars, a family vacation to Hawaii, etc. The spending didn't stop. If she wanted something, she manipulated my father into thinking he wanted it to. Meanwhile, the money began to drain, my father couldn't find a steady job and the bills were only half way being paid. The mortgage however, was not being paid. A $4500/mo mortgage is quite a lot when someone convinces you to spend the money you don't have.

After 2 years of misery, an innocent situation got out of hand and my father was manipulated into leaving his home with me and getting our own place, yet again. However, my father still owned the house. She had began getting sick and my father was manipulated  into letting her stay in the home because of her illnesses. My father was under the impression that she would manage paying the bills for the house, including the mortgage. She did not. She paid minor bills but the mortgage was untouched. In 2009, the house went into the process of foreclosure. She did not inform my father and I of the documents received about the foreclosure. She kept those things hidden away. It wasn't until April of 2013 when my father and I were being evicted from our 2nd apartment (due to lack of rent) that we had to move back into the house with no other option available. Funds were low. We were living paycheck to paycheck. I was just 2 months into my new job and my father just making ends meet by working at Rite Aid to pay the car payment, insurance and being able to buy food for us both. My father left his job at Rite Aid in June of 2014 with the promise of a better paying, high quality job. The job was a fluke and only lasted until January of 2015. From then, my father claimed unemployment and the job search began. All the while, his "friend" was still living in the home. Her children all gone off on their own lives and her soon-to-be-ex-husband living upstate with his new girlfriend. She was alone and so were we. She was also still severely sick and was bed-ridden and hospital bound quite often. In December of 2015, 10 years since my mother's death, my father still not having the chance to truly cope, went out and got his SORA certificate and began working a part-time weekend job for a security company.

Fast forward to now, May of 2016. My father was "promoted" at his job to working full-time overnight. While it is something, it's not making things easier. Earlier this month, we received a notice from a lawyer stating that our home will be put up for a sheriff's sale on June 17th, 2016. We were shocked that for so long we have been able to get by with the house being in foreclosure. Every mortgage counselor we spoke to was also shocked. A 9 year foreclosure process was unheard of. By some miracle though, we were blessed with it being so long. On May 23, 2016, the electricity was shut off. As a result of the bill being unpaid by his "friend" since October of 2015, PSE&G will not accept a dollar less than $1300.

I have a goal set for $10,000 because I feel it will help pay for an apartment for my father with security and 1st month's rent. The remainder of the money will help with paying for bills and getting my father on his feet so he never ends up in this position again.

If you could, please find it in your heart to help my father in this situation so he does not end up on the street. Family has helped to the best they can but no one is able to take him in and he has nowhere to go. I, myself, am not in a stable financial position to be able to help him in any way. This is his last resort. Any donation amount will help tremendously. If you cannot make a donation, please share this with whoever you know to help spread the word. We would truly appreciate all the help he could get.

Thank you!
