As parents we anticipate our children's firsts with excitement and joy. First smile, first word, first step. First touchdown, first drive, first dance, first date. These firsts are celebrated with the assumption there will be more smiles, more steps, more dates.
Hearing the words, "The lump on Cooper's arm is cancer" is awful enough the first time. We never anticipated cancer as a first; let alone, "The cancer is back", or "There is a new lump of cancer", or "The cancer is growing because the trial isn't working". There shouldn't have been a first cancer. More than a first is inconceivable, then it happens.
Cooper's horrific cancer first began in September 2015. Then January 2017. Then December 2017. Just about to begin 6th grade in 2015, Cooper didn't have the first touchdown or first dance. Instead Cooper had first biopsy, first chemotherapy, first radiation. Now after 85 weeks of chemo, 56 radiation sessions, 17 CAT scans, 15 MRIs, 7 surgical procedures and countless needle pokes; Cooper must continue to Conquer Cancer not only with medicine, but also by living life, having adventures, laughing with family and friends.
CooperStrong came to life from the love and support of our friends, family, and community wanting to help our family successfully battle a rare and particularly nasty cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma. Our CooperStrong community has been amazing.
Now as Cooper needs to travel out of state to visit more doctors, more hospitals, and explore more trials, we also realize that Cooper needs some living in his life. Our CooperStrong community encourages you to remember your firsts, your children's firsts, your grandchildren's firsts and give your donation to help Cooper Conquer Cancer.
