Carla's cancer treatment.

This is the story of my niece Carla, She is 36 years old and is call centre worker living in Manila, The Philippines.  Her story begins in september 2015 where she discovered a small bump on her left breast. At first it was disregarded due to fear and also the cost of seeing a doctor in the Philippines.

November 2015 She saw a specialist who diagnosed Carla with stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer. This was a huge blow to our family as she is so young and healthy.
As a family unit spreading from Manila to here in the UK and the USA we have all tried our best to emotionally and financially support her treatment but the ongoing costs of treatment are building much too high for all of us.

She has completed one cycle of chemotherapy consisting of 9 sessions, each session costing around £300
a medicine used for each chemo session called herceptin costs £1300 per 2 vials, and 2 vials were not enough to cover the whole 9 sessions.
Each CT scan costs about £500
A visit to the doctor costs £150 before writing a prescription costing £12 each and then the costs of the countless medications she needs to take for her blood, bones, liver and pain relief such as morphine patches.

I have rounded these figures to the nearest pound  and these figures are based on the current exchange rate. It is hard to figure out a total amount needed as her medications and treatments are all dependant on her current situation.

Carla is due to start radiotherapy, this is the next stage on her road to recovery.  As it stands, we have exhausted all of our options and this treatment is not something we can afford. Carla has made her own efforts to raise funds, she has held garage sales, and this past easter  we held an easter egg sale raising just over £100.

Carla lives with her mum, 2 brothers, sister in law, 2 nephews and 1 neice ages 4, 5, and 10. Carla wishes to travel and loves the beach, she has never left the country. She has a long term girlfriend who has stood by her through everything.

The disease is deadly and aggressive but we all remain hopeful, she has always had a fighting spirit and despite her trauma, she remains cheerful, witty and positive, its amazing to see her smile everyday on skype.

I will post weekly to keep the page updated with any changes and her current situation.

On behalf of Carla, and the whole family, we thank you in advance for absolutely any help that can be offered, no amount is too small and every penny and prayer is greatly appreciated.

Thanking you from my heart.
Virginia.
