Hello! We are Don & Mindy Kaleta and we have a BIG DREAM:
Opening a small farm with the MAIN ATTRACTION being The Big Red Reading Barn to help “Bring people & animals together in friendship through READING, LEARNING and the LOVE of BOOKS!”
You see, we have a passion to:
· Acquire a country home on 2-5 acres
· Open our home to adopt farm animals into our personal family
· Share our home with the community through WORKSHOPS, CLASSES & EVENTS
· Offer educational PROGRAMS with focus on FRIENDSHIP, READING & WELL-BEING for both people and animals
· Write and Publish a book for every animal we adopt
· Support Children’s Literacy by providing a READ-To-The-Animals program in The Big Red Reading Barn
· Include a Farm Store and Library – Offering opportunities to purchase gifts & storybooks of the animals AND to “bring a book/take a book” at the FREE lending library
· Provide a indoor (barn) and outdoor reading areas for visitors to read on their own, to an animal or with others
· Add a Kid’s Playground & Family Picnic Areas for you visiting pleasure
· Incorporate an indoor multi-purpose area for workshops, classes and events
To make this dream a reality, we are asking for $450K to be dispersed in the following ways:
· Property (2-5 acres)
· The Barn, 4-6-stalls, office, farm store, storage
· Fencing for the Animals
· Multipurpose Building for Classes/Workshops
· Natural Kid’s Playground/Picnic Areas
· Driveway and Parking Facilities
This project will include:
School Visits
· The READ program at The Big Red Reading Barn where kids Pre-K – 6th Grade can read to the animals, meet and learn about the farm animals, play on the natural playground & be refreshed and ready to go back to the classroom.
· FREE TAKE HOME - book of their favorite animal from the farm store & choose a book from the FREE lending library!
Other Kid’s Programs
· Be Kind, Be Fit, Be Me! - Where kids 1) learn the importance of kindness to animals (teaching respect, compassion for themselves and others), 2) taking good care of themselves with healthy food and exercise (encouraging a healthy lifestyle) and 3) discovering and celebrating who they really are (self-esteem).
· Me & My Pup! - Puppy Training Classes for Kids - Based on Don’s book Puppy Scents, The Kid’s Guide to Puppy Care endorsed by Jack Hanna of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium!
· Small Animal Classes – Building Character with Stories from Nature filled with insightful analogies to support development, inspiration for helping others, taking a stand against injustice and seeing beyond stereotypes.
Kids also learn how to care for smaller animals such as gerbils, hamsters, fish (Wet Pets!) and other small animal pals!
Adult Classes, Workshops & Events
· Yoga & Meditation in the Pasture
· Essential Oils for the Family, Animals & the Woman’s Soul
· #AHAPPYSAFEPLACETOCALLHOME Support Group - A resource, connection & support to all who selflessly serve humanity & animals AND to offer educational & self-care resources to help take care of YOU so you can continue to do the work you do for the long haul.
· Various Classes & Workshops for Health & Well-Being such as Healthy Meals for Families on the go, Natural Living & Healing modalities, Kids cooking classes and new classes being added all the time!

Getting kids outside in the fresh air, to meet up-close and personal with the animals, learn about them and acquire a deeper understanding of them and who they are will create lasting friendships and memorable moments resulting in kids becoming respectful, kind and compassionate adults.
