Guardianship for Alexis

Donation protected
Alexis Gerhardt or Alexis McCann was born on February 6, 2004.   At the age of 4 months she had been physically abused while in the care of her mother Tara and Tara's paternal aunt that was caring for the child.  The Department of Children and Family services placed Alexis in the care of her Grandmother, Tamara Young for 5 years and Alexis was very bonded to Tamara, Bobby, Tamara's youngest daughter Miranda and their extended, loving family.  On November 2008, the courts said it was time for Alexis to return to her mother Tara McCann, who was married to Joshua McCann, and that it was in the best interest of the child to be able to stay in contact with her Grandmother, Tamara Young.  Alexis' mother severed the bond and Alexis was no longer able to see her grandmother or any of the family she had grown up to know.  Tamara filed a petition for grandparent visitation, but the State of Iowa does not recognize rights for grandparents.  It has been 8 years that Alexis has had no contact with her grandmother and her family.

June 2017, Tamara was contacted through Facebook by the mother of a young man that Tara had a relationship with.  The woman had stated that Tara had left her husband, Josh and daughter Alexis and was harassing and bullying this woman's son and family.  The woman claimed Tara had been living with her son at his mother's house for 11 weeks and that Tara had stated that Tara's husband and Tara was planning on divorcing and that Alexis would stay with Josh.  The woman stated that Alexis only sees her mother once a month, if that.  The woman also stated that Tara has been threatening her family due to her son not wanting a relationship with herTara.  The woman also stated that Alexis' mother continually tells Alexis that she is not to ask about her grandmother or any of the family she once knew.

Tara's relationship with Alexis is unstable and emotionally damaging.  Alexis has no support or guidance from her mother and is left alone while the step father works.  Alexis is at the age that she needs family support and love, more than ever, to prepare her for a life on her own when she is ready. Tamara and Bobby Young are seeking guardianship of Alexis to keep her safe and give her the love, devotion and support that a child needs and deserves.  It is time for Alexis to come home.

Tamara and Bobby Young have given their lives to Christ and have stable employment but need help with Alexis' Guardian ad litem retainer of $1000 and Tamara and Bobby's lawyer retainer of $1500, coming to a grand total of $2500.  So we are asking anyone to give what God places on your heart to help bring Alexis back where she belongs.  Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
